Monopoly Goin Global

Hasbro’s Monopoly board game is planning for a new release.  Monopoly World Edition will be the standard Monopoly board game, except the properties will be different cities in the world.  The way Monopoly has decided to go about their city selection is a democratic one.  You can go to their website and vote, and the top 20 cities will be on the board.  The two cities with the most votes will be taking place of the Boardwalk and Park Place properties and so on down the line.

Now I might be a college kid that doesn’t watch TV and has limited new input, but it seems to me that this project is poorly publicized.  This is, in my opinion, a fun and creative thing for Hasbro to do, but how will it succeed if no one knows about it.  Looking at the Leaderboard I foresee some grim conclusions if people don’t figure this out fast.  For example  Istanbul, Turkey is in the lead right now.  Honestly… how random is that.

I think that the way that this will go is that each place that finds out about this little contest will publicize like mad to get people of their city/country to vote.  I’ve already seen this happening with Facebook groups, people are banning together to get a particular place on that list.  Great… unity for people, good PR for the company… but slightly unfair.

I think it would be interesting to publicize the shit out of this EVERYWHERE and then see the most desired countries (excluding unfair biases like third-world countries where internet is not easily accessible.

Don’t foget to go vote for you’re favorite place. (P.S you can vote for up to 10 cities every 24hours.)
