The Kind of Spree I Like

I’ve know about The Polyphonic Spree for some time now, and I always wanted to research about them. Finally this blog has moved me to do so.
The Polyphonic Spree originates from Huston, Texas where front man Tim DeLaughter had already put his name into the music scene. After his band Tripping Daisys suffered from a death in the band, DeLaughter wanted a new direction. Going for an upedy, sunshiny, ELO-esque sound, he created The Polyphonic Spree. This 23 piece band is complete with a full choir, harps, and plenty of other peculiar instruments.
One part of the band has caused some unrest with the people that see their image. The band performs in white robes, a move that many have called a move towards a religious cult. This is not the case, it is in fact great stage tactic. DeLaughter saw that if there was 23 people on stage in street clothes it would be a big distraction to the music being made. A smart move I feel. The band later added colors to display their individuality and creativity.
The Spree’s music can be found in the Volkswagen/iPod commercials, Scrubs, and on the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack. They have performed in places like the Royal Festival Hall in London and at a Nobel Peace Prize concert.
Some accuse Spree’s of being too happy, to the point that it looks fake. I say why not be extremely happy, they are making beautiful music.
This is the Spree’s more known song “Light and Day”. It’s amazing to see all of the people in this crowd entranced by this band. When showing this video to a friend of mine he said, “Wow, that guy must be on a lot of drugs.” To which I responded “The even crazier thought is that hes not on a lot of drugs.”
